Kidney Transplant

Also called Renal Transplant, it is a surgical process in which a healthy donor kidney is grafted to the patient whose both kidneys have stopped functioning normally.

Signs & Symptoms of Kidney Transplant

  • Swelling of the hands, feet, and face (edema)
  • Headaches (due to high blood pressure)
  • Seizures
  • Pale skin color
  • Coffee-colored urine
  • Chronic bad breath
  • Depression

Treatment of Kidney Transplant

Pre Transplant

Both the recipient and donor undergo thorough evaluations to assess their surgery readiness. They are brought to an optimal state to withstand the procedure.

Transplant

The new kidney is placed in the patient’s lower belly and connected to their blood vessels and bladder. The failed kidneys are usually left in place.

Post Transplant

After surgery, the patient is kept in a post-transplant unit to minimize the risk of infection. Anti-rejection injections may be given to ensure the body accepts the new organ.
