Cochlear Implant

Cochlear implant is a small intricate electronic device, used in patients who are profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. It is implanted surgically to produce useful hearing in patients who do not benefit from hearing aids.

Working of Cochlear Implant

Step 1

The sound is picked up by the microphone and interpreted by the sound processor.

Step 2

The interpreted sound is delivered through a transmitter coil to the implanted receiver.

Step 3

The implanted receiver sends the electrical signals through the electrodes placed in the cochlea.

Step 4

The electrical signals are sent to the brain for decoding.
