Sleeve Gastrectomy

It is a surgical process to reduce the stomach to 25% of its original size by removing the large stomach pouch and leaving a banana-shaped sleeve.

The patient is given general anesthesia.

A small incision is made in the abdomen to insert the laparoscope.

The surgeon removes three-quarters of the stomach along the outside curvature, leaving a banana-shaped small pouch of the stomach.

Remaining portions of the stomach are joined together using surgical staples.

The incisions are closed with stitches and staples.
